Dana White didn’t hesitate when asked to reveal his UFC Mount Rushmore. The UFC boss dropped his top four all-time greats without flinching in the buildup for Noche UFC.
Ahead of UFC 306, White was questioned by ESPN about his picks for the greatest UFC fighters ever.
With a list ready at hand, he didn’t hold back. While his selection is likely counter to most fan picks, the UFC President explained why each fighter deserved their spot among the elite.
“You’ve got to go with Jon Jones,” White said. “You have to go with Ronda Rousey. Women wouldn’t be fighting in the UFC if it wasn’t for her. You would have to put GSP (Georges St-Pierre) in there, and absolutely, positively, Conor McGregor. He elevated and changed the game globally.”
Jon Jones was the first name White mentioned, and it’s no surprise considering his current determination to hold him in GOAT status.
White has often called Jones the greatest of all time, citing his undefeated record and an unmatched 16 title fights. The UFC President considers Jones’ legacy unshakable.
Rousey’s inclusion reflects her monumental impact on women’s MMA. White once swore women would never fight in the UFC, but Rousey’s dominance changed his mind.
The UFC Hall of Famer became a superstar, blazing through her division before falling to Holly Holm in 2015. Despite the tough end, Rousey’s influence still reverberates in the UFC today.
Georges St-Pierre, with reigns in two weight classes and nine straight welterweight title defenses, was another obvious choice. GSP’s 13 title fight wins are second only to Jones, and his record of fights against other big names are undeniable.
McGregor, the fourth name on the list, might have struggled in recent years with a 1-3 record, but White made it clear that McGregor’s legacy is undeniable. As the first UFC fighter to hold two belts simultaneously, McGregor’s impact on the global reach of MMA is a massive part of UFC history.
Dana failed to mention other potential Mount Rushmore-worthy athletes like Anderson Silva, Khabib Nurmagomedov, and more.
Who would be on your list?
