So let’s rush into the review, so you can get a summary of the features, a video of my first impressions, and a more detailed breakdown with photos if you want to see it!

I’m reviewing a pair of the Hayabusa boxing gloves from the Marvel “Phase 3” collection in a striking Deadpool style.

The glove size I’m trying out is 16 oz, which is usually a pretty large size for my wrists and hands.

I have pretty small wrists, so something to keep in mind with the opinion I give coming up. Especially about wrist support which these gloves are so well known for.

Quick summary

If you’re in a rush and want to know the key points from my review, here’s a summary:

  • These Hayabusa gloves have insanely good wrist support, which is ideal for beginners or with small wrists
  • The gloves have thick padding over the punching surface of the knuckles and extra covering the knuckle of your first finger (which most gloves don’t have), giving even more hand protection when hitting your mark
  • The engineered leather feels incredible quality that will last a long time
  • This Deadpool style is particularly great to look at and is a really high-grade representation of the infamous superhero character’s personality
  • You are paying a premium with the Marvel edition gloves. You can get most of Hayabusa gloves’ quality and protection in much cheaper options like the T3
  • I had some minor discomfort with my thumb pushing into the inner stitching, but I think it’s largely down to my particular hand shape
  • I’m still rating these gloves 5/5 because I’m so happy with them and definitely recommend them

Unboxing the Hayabusa Marvel boxing gloves

It’s worth noting first that the unboxing experience with these gloves feels pretty special. You definitely enter a premium experience with the box, the glove bag, and all its wrappings.

It feels exciting to bring the package out of the box and get that new glove smell lingering in the air.

The bag the gloves come in notes the Marvel “Hero Elite Series” packaging with some comic book graphics of The Punisher, Ironman, Batman, and even the Avengers team with Captain America at the front.

But don’t be fooled. We’re unpackaging the Deadpool antihero. Probably one of my favorite Marvel characters ever.

Once you pull the gloves out of the bag, you notice they are wrapped up in paper packets. A certificate of authenticity falls out of the bag once you remove them. Loving that premium feeling at this point!

When you remove them from the boxing completely, you immediately notice how vibrant in color these gloves are and the care placed into their manufacture with the embossed logos and tightly sewn edges.

Deadpool glove style and looks

The gloves look awesome at first glance. And when you start inspecting them further, you notice all the little extra details that make them feel special.

Hayabusa Marvel boxing glove backhand view

I immediately noticed that “spandex red” feeling that the Deadpool character is so well known for.

The Deadpool eyes on the top of the hand stand out first, along with the minor camo patterns and black detail.

Taking a closer look at the wrist strap, you spot that the wrist strapping was designed to feel like Deadpool’s own utility belt, complete with a belt buckle and even a little unicorn to match his flamboyant personality.

I’d say these gloves are for making an entrance (a bit like Deadpool himself).

They are such a rich color that everyone is going to notice you.

And if you’re sparring with these on with those little white Deadpool eyes staring at your opponent, it’s likely going to tick them off.

But that’s what makes these gloves such a great look, they aren’t like any regular boxing glove. They’re for bringing fun and personality (not to mention seriously high levels of wrist protection) into your training.

Material quality and feel

Now let’s talk about the glove’s materials at first glance and what it’s like to feel them.

Hayabusa Marvel boxing glove palm view

The gloves are described as having “Vylar Engineered Leather.” When I looked into it, Vylar is described as having the best results of being tested in extreme conditions.

Testing trials by the University of Cincinnati showed that Vylar leather stood out as the most resistant material while offering tear and crack resistance flexibility.

I can tell you that the leather feels and looks are of premium quality. I was blown away by the vibrance and sense of quality when I unboxed them.

You can see the slight natural grain you expect in leather, but it’s very well formed around the mold of the gloves to give a crease-free punching surface where you need it.

Across the knuckles, top of the hand, and most of the palm and wrist, is where the Vylar leather is used.

But the thumb and side of the palm use another kind of leather, which feels a bit more like a matte suede. Hayabusa describes this as a microfiber thumb that helps you wipe away sweat during training.

The microfiber will help the sweat absorb and air out after using them. You don’t want sweat to collect on or especially inside your gloves, but there are good ventilation areas across the whole glove.

The wrist support has a very strong velcro which helps it to feel very secure when tightened (as well as the dual-strapping system, obviously).

The gloves have an insanely vibrant color in that rich Deadpool red. The leather also has multiple designs and logos printed on it to represent the Deadpool character.

When you think about printing complicated designs on leather, I could imagine it might wear away in time and look a bit tacky.

But having felt the care and attention to detail with these gloves, it seems like they would continue looking good for a really long time.

I couldn’t find any faults on the materials. The leather is pristine, the creasing is precise, and the stitching it essentially fray-less.

The gloves have two sturdy elasticated straps down the palm of the glove, allowing you to keep the gloves very open-air for maximum airflow while keeping everything intact.

Dual-X interlocking strapping system

One of the flagship features of the Hayabusa collection of gloves is their unique strapping system.

Putting hand into the Hayabusa Marvel boxing glove

The majority of velcro gloves you can buy are very specifically one-strapped. Sometimes the strap is large and with great grip, but you still rely on one strap to tighten the whole glove.

Traditional boxing gloves with laces are usually better than velcro simply because you can tighten more individual areas of the glove around the hand and wrist.

Their dual strapping system is particularly great about these Deadpool Hayabusa gloves.

The first strap pulls in the wrist opening of the glove snugly around your wrist:

The second strap neatly secures everything in place on top:

Palm view when wearing a strapped Hayabusa Marvel boxing glove

With most velcro strapping gloves, you’re getting both actions in one strap – but its typically not ideal.

As I can secure my wrist tightly with the first strap and then secure that with the second, it means less chance of the strap becoming loose.

Less loose strapping = more consistent wrist support = fewer injuries!

Many beginners in boxing will not be able to strap their gloves tightly enough (or appreciate the importance of it) and eventually end up with regular injuries to their wrists.

Bad form can result in injuries because your wrist takes all the force, but even professionals can occasionally throw a punch at an awkward angle.

As boxing and fighting, in general, is a very dynamic sport, you’re constantly changing the directions you are moving and punching, so punches with bad form are expected to happen.

And when they do, the small bones in your hands and wrists take a beating.

With wrist support in place that you can trust and have confidence in, you’re less likely to suffer from these injuries.

And I’m confident in saying that the Dual-X strapping system on these gloves offers that reliability.

In short, I love the dual strapping system.

Extra glove features

I’ve already mentioned that the microfiber thumb has a suede-like outer material that is good for wiping sweat from your brow.

Another feature that benefits this glove’s overall wrist support technology is the “4x Fusion Splinting”. But what does that mean?

The glove has a four-plate core support system that connects the Dual-X wrist strapping and up into the backhand part of the glove.

So while the Dual-X strapping system locks your wrist in place, it is also locking in this Fusion Splinting “core” that provides extra stability into the rest of your hand.

This extra core is like having an extra pair of abs aligned with your hand, offering additional support and ensuring a stable hand alignment for striking.

When you punch, you ideally want your entire alignment to be a straight line from the tip of your knuckle down to your wrist, and into your forearm.

You don’t want your wrist to be bent or your knuckles to be skewed.

One tightly packed line punching straight equals a proper force delivery towards your target and adequate rebounding energy dissipation.

And if that all wasn’t enough, the gloves feature an extremely dense foam padding called “Deltra-EG.” It’s essentially complicated multi-layered padding, so you get the best shock absorption possible.

Just by squeezing the glove, I can tell it feels incredibly dense and durable.

The glove has a special “AG Fabric” lining that helps to regulate the temperature inside the glove, keeping your hands cooler for longer.

There’s also the ergonomically placed thumb position (it still isn’t perfect for my thumbs, but it’s comfortable), perforated palm (small air holes), and an excellent grip bar which I like a lot because it definitely helps produce a compact fist.

Tons of features to get stuck into and enjoy with these gloves. Luckily, it doesn’t take a science degree to use them at all.

Just slip them on, dual strap up in seconds, and you get excellent protection and comfort for a glove.

What’s bad about these gloves

After playing with the gloves for a while, just about the only thing I don’t like about them is that the thumb compartment doesn’t feel the best fit for my hands.

But I consider myself somewhat abnormal, as I have slim hands and wrists.

It’s usually harder for me to find a glove that gives enough wrist support, but these gloves don’t disappoint there. It’s just the thumb position and padding.

My thumb pushes right into the stitching point of the thumb compartment, so it doesn’t actually feel very padded from the inside for my slim thumb.

The only other reason to consider not buying these gloves is the price. They are quite a premium price tag.

Hayabusa kindly sent these gloves to me for free for this review, but if I was to buy them myself, I might have to think a bit more diligently.

Do I really want to pay this price for a pair of gloves that stand out quite as much as this? Speaking as someone who usually goes for the most mundane matte black gloves he can find.

But now that I do have these gloves, I’m excited to use them and for other people to see them. Maybe it’s just a little hump you have to get over.

These are minor niggles rather than complaints in the grand scheme of things. These are excellent gloves overall.

I kinda love these gloves. If that’s all you need to hear, you can probably stop reading now.

But I’ll continue to say that I love these gloves partly because Deadpool is one of my favorite comic book anti-heroes, and they genuinely did the character proud in the glove design.

Another reason is that Hayabusa simply seems to think of everything when it comes to glove technology and advancements that help fighters.

I massively appreciate a brand that can try to understand the struggles that fighters go through so delicately. Most notably, the prevalence of hand and wrist injuries.

You’ve got to protect your weapons if you want to keep training year-round, especially if you’re planning to fight.

A weakened wrist from repetitive minor injuries can add up to one big problem later.

The wrist-supporting technology here makes these gloves an absolute winner in my book.

Plus, they’re really going to annoy your sparring opponents just by how they look. Which makes it all the more fun to use them.

These Deadpool boxing gloves are originally recommended for intermediate or advanced fighters.

But my opinion is that if you can afford the price tag, then a pair of gloves like this that offer elite protection is really worth investing in. No matter what stage of training you’re at.

Beginners usually can’t throw enough power for wrist injuries to be a common problem, but it only takes six months of consistent training before you’d start to notice niggling issues if your form is to blame.

You can’t really put a price tag on investing in protecting your body and joints, especially so you can keep training for the rest of your life with ease!

These are some of the best boxing gloves I’ve tried, so I give them high rating for thinking of just about everything you could want in a pair of boxing gloves.

Research for this review

Now that you’ve read my thoughts and review about these gloves, let me share some of my research and answer some common questions.

Why you should trust my review

This Hayabusa boxing gloves review was written by a genuine passionate mixed martial artist, Joe Bloom.

I’ve been training in martial arts for the last several years and care just as much as you do about finding reliable and honest product information and reviews.

I got my own pair of these gloves in my hands and tested them out myself to create this review.

Unlike most websites that just regurgitate Amazon reviews, I test products for myself. And that’s why you should trust my opinion.

Are Hayabusa gloves good?

Typically, Hayabusa gloves are excellent options for martial artists of many kinds. Hayabusa boxing gloves offer some of the best comfort and hand protection currently available on the market, making them a favorite of many fight enthusiasts.
I always wondered about the brand myself after seeing several fighters using their gloves in training at my gym.
So I was glad to try them out for myself finally, and I wasn’t disappointed. This review proves that.

Are Hayabusa gloves good for Muay Thai?

Hayabusa gloves are good for Muay Thai mostly because the wrist support will keep you free of common injuries. But most Muay Thai gloves need more flexible wrists to catch leg kicks and clinch, which the Hayabusa gloves are not ideal for.
Wrist support is always good, so it really could come down to personal preference and fighting style.
Generally speaking, you need to have enough flexibility in the wrists to be able to catch kicks coming at your legs, body, and head.
You also need to be able to have enough bend in the wrists to grab (scoop) the back of your opponent’s neck in the clinch and to throw your knees.
As Muay Thai attacks lean towards devastating leg kicks, knees, and elbows, you could have less requirement for wrist support. But you have to weigh up your ability and fighting style to make that decision.

Are Hayabusa gloves good for boxing?

Hayabusa gloves are excellent for boxing because of their advanced hand and wrist support. The Dual-X strapping system secures the wrist firmly in place. Coupled with the Fusion Splinting core, they give very high stability for delivering effective punches while reducing injuries.
Hayabusa gloves are generally great gloves for most striking martial arts, whether it’s boxing, kickboxing, or Muay Thai.
